Ben's 6th post

In this weeks post I thought I'd include the last of the Morris Glietzman novels that I read recently called Too Small to Fail.

In this story Oliver, the son of wealthy investment bankers, thinks of himself as a failure, and is bullied by others at school especially about his struggles with Maths. Although he has everything that money can buy, all he really wants is the company of a dog and for his parents to be around more.

Yet Oliver is forced to deal with more grown up problems when his ex-housekeeper threatens to kill the dog he's always wanted if he won’t help her recover the money which his parents lost through bad investments. Oliver learns that his parents’ bank has been severely affected by the global financial crisis and they owe their clients a lot of money. Oliver is sure his parents would never deliberately harm anyone, so he sets out to rectify the problem, determined to raise enough money to pay Nancy back.

Although the story is built around a main character who is of upper primary age, the book would suit readers up to lower secondary school age as the terminology used is quite technical, especially the financial terms that are used frequently.
